# Letter templates

> Start from a proven template for security deposits, IRS responses, and notices to vacate.

## Letter templates

Start from a proven template and edit the bracketed fields. Templates are a tool, not legal advice.

Browse the full gallery at **[/templates](https://sendpaperplane.com/templates)**, which indexes every template and links straight into the composer pre-filled. Each template also has its own public SEO page:

* [Security deposit demand letter](https://sendpaperplane.com/security-deposit-demand-letter)
* [IRS response letter](https://sendpaperplane.com/irs-response-letter)
* [Notice to vacate letter](https://sendpaperplane.com/notice-to-vacate-letter)

Open a template in the composer and the letter is pre-filled for you to edit. Adding a template to the app's `lib/templates.ts` automatically shows it in the gallery and at `/send?template=<key>`.

## Request a template

The catalog is demand-driven: any reader can [request the next template and upvote ideas](https://sendpaperplane.com/templates/request) — the gallery is what people actually use, not a fixed list.

## Embed a template on your own site

Any publisher can render a working template widget with one script (see [Embed](/docs/guides/embed)): `template-embed.js` + `/templates/embed/{key}` shows a no-chrome "send this letter" form branded "Powered by `<host>` & paperplane".

## Choosing a mail class

| Situation                                          | Mail class                     | Why                                     |
| -------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------ | --------------------------------------- |
| Routine personal mail                              | First-Class                    | \$1.99, cheapest.                       |
| Anything time-sensitive you need proof of          | Certified                      | \$12.99, proof of mailing + tracking.   |
| Legal / eviction-adjacent / where you'll sue later | Certified **e-Return Receipt** | \$14.99, court-ready proof of delivery. |
| Flat, bulky, or urgent                             | Priority                       | \$24.99, USPS Priority flat-rate.       |

## Holding up in front of a judge

Certified Mail with electronic Return Receipt gives you a signature, a date, and a tracking record. For a demand letter where you may later need to show the landlord *received* it, that is the difference between a claim and a record.
